Commercial CRAs play a key role in the economy by providing accurate, timely and complete data on businesses to lenders, including trade creditors, in order to support sensible, responsible decisions on extending affordable finance to those businesses requesting it.
BIPA recently held their regular virtual meeting and were delighted to welcome 2 guests this month.
BIPA were delighted to host a virtual meeting today with various representatives from BEIS and Companies House to discuss the 3 open consultations for reforms to the company register.
The Commercial credit reference agency industry primarily exists to facilitate the granting of commercial finance and trade credit by lenders and suppliers and this is going to be extremely important as the economy navigates its way through and beyond the Covid-19 crisis.
CICM Magazine featured an interview with Chief Executive and Registrar of Companies House, Louise Smyth in their September 2019 issue. We were pleased to see that stats from BIPA were quoted in the article.
BIPA has responded to the Companies House consultation (Corporate transparency and register reform).
After much anticipation, Companies House have released news that they will be proposing a reform of the way it operates. They will be allowing people to provide their input on this via their online consultation.
BIPA members have been working closely with HMRC in order to obtain non financial VAT Data for the use in trade credit scoring. In March 2018 a number of BIPA members were successful in their applications to receive this data from the HMRC.
COVID-19
The Covid-19 crisis is first and foremost a humanitarian crisis and all our members are putting people first in their response. As an industry body, BIPA believes that our role during this crisis is to ensure that the economy continues to benefit from informed credit decisions and we are reaching out to government and other stakeholders to offer our help in whatever way we can. We will provide updates as appropriate.
